The Masonic Order of Athelstan
in England, Wales and its Provinces Overseas

Friday 17th April 2020

 Dear Sir and Brother,

It is never not worth repeating that I hope that you and your respective families are safe and well during this world-wide crisis. Please remain safe by following the guidance of the health officials and governments of your respective countries.

My great desire is that you should have received some form of contact from your Court Almoner and/or Provincial checking on your individual well-being. I have tasked the Grand High Almoner and through him the existing or newly appointed Provincial Almoners, to provide me with a monthly report as to health of you all. In my previous letter I implored that every member should become a Deputy Almoner during this crazy time, this I reiterate and unashamedly comment that we should all practice what we often preach.

It has been wonderful to see Provinces and Courts undertake social gatherings using modern platforms such as WhatsApp, Messenger, Skype and Zoom. I fully endorse this as a present and future means of keeping in touch. A word of caution, especially on platforms such as Zoom, please ensure your electronic security by using passwords etc.

Once this pestilence is conquered and we pray it is in the very near future and the lock downs begin to lift; we must return to our Courts and begin to meet and work again in peace, harmony, and unity. However, this will not be without its challenges and rest assured that we as an Order have not been idle. I have personally hosted severally video conferences with the Grand Witan, Provincial Grand Masters and other senior brethren discussing what future we can anticipate and to make provisions accordingly.

Our new Masonic financial year begins on 1 st July 2020 ending on the 30 th June 2021. I am pleased to inform you that during the ensuing period that the Grand Court annual membership fee will be subject to a 50% discount to assist our brethren and in particular their Courts. Furthermore, that during the same period there will be no Grand Court fees levied for Joining or Re-Joining members or for new Candidates to our Order either as Founders or as Court Instructees.

This is but a small gesture from Grand Court in the realisation that we are all about to enter financially challenging times.

2020 was to be a year of celebration for our Order with several exciting and high-profile events; let us all hope that during our 15 th year that we can suitably celebrate our birthday at some point. The best birthday present that you can give your Grand Master is that you remain healthy, in good cheer and entertain a renewed vigour to enjoy the fellowship of your brother Masons when we once again safely meet.

Yours sincerely & fraternally,

M.W. Brother Paul W. Johnston
