Provincial Grand Court of East Anglia

East Anglia Provincial 2015

The Province of East Anglia held its annual Provincial Grand Court at the Masonic Hall, Newmarket on Saturday 5th September 2015.

The Right Worshipful Provincial Grand Master, RW Bro. Brian Coshall was accompanied into the Court by his Provincial Officers, and was suitably saluted by the Brethren under the direction of the Provincial Grand Marshal.

RW Bro, Dr. Chris Ansell, GCh, GCSM, was then welcomed into the Court, and the Roll of Provincial Officers and Courts within the Province was called.

The RWPGM was delighted to welcome the Past PGM, RWBro. Roy Foster, GCSM, to the meeting.

The business of the Provincial Grand Court was then conducted, after which the Provincial Grand Court was closed, and after a short recess, the Brethren re-assembled for the opening of the Court of Aelfred No. 2.

After opening and welcoming the RWPGM into the Court, the minutes from the previous meeting were presented and approved, and the business of the Court then proceeded.

The main business of the meeting was the Installation of Bro. Brian Colin Thrower into the chair of King Athelstan, after which the Master inverted and appointed his Officers for the year.

Special dispensation had been granted by the Grand Master for the Master of the year to wear, in perpetuity, a commemorative collaret as part of his regalia. This is in the form of the famous "Alfred Jewel" suspended from a red collaret and was presented to the WM of the Court by the Assistant Grand Master.

A short talk entitled “The Wolf Kings of East Anglia” was given by WBro. Martin Bates, KSM, which proved to be not only informative, but also very entertaining.

Following the end of proceedings, the Brethren and visitors retired to the dining room to enjoy a very welcome and delicious meal at which every brother received a commemorative lapel pin: in the form of the Alfred Jewel, marking the 10th anniversary of the founding of the Court of Aelfred No 2, the primus Court of the Order.
