The Grand Master, M W Bro Paul W Johnston, PGHCh, GCSM, accompanied by the Grand Secretary, R W Bro Roy W Leavers, KCSM, PSGW; the Grand Marshal, V W Bro John D Watts, KSM; the Grand Sword Bearer, V W Bro Ian Scott, KSM; the Deputy Grand Marshal, W Bro Simon S Walsh; and the Grand Guard, W Bro Derek Dunn, made their separate ways to Airports in England and then travelled to Amsterdam arriving at about 11.00am.

Having all joined up they then travelled together from Amsterdam to Lima in Peru, arriving at 7.00pm. There then followed a three hour wait until they boarded a flight taking them from Lima to La Paz; arriving on Thursday 28th January at 3.00am in the morning (local time) with Bolivia being some 4 hours behind GMT. Here they were met by W Bro Jose Mendoza, the Provincial Grand Master for Bolivia Designate who is the First Grand Principal of the Royal Arch (Bolivia). After the many hours of travel it was delightful to be met by the charming W Bro Jose who, over a period of some 6 months had been working in tandem with R W Bro Roy, on what they both agreed, was nearly a daily basis planning the Masonic Agenda for our trip to Bolivia. W Bro Jose quickly ensured our luggage was accounted for and the arranged transport sped them to the Hotel Presidente, La Paz City Centre, which is to be the base for our Masonic activities.

La Paz is the highest administrative capital in the world, resting on the Andes’ Altiplano plateau at more than 3,500m above sea level. It stretches to El Alto city in the highlands, with the now-capped, 6,438m-high Mt. Illimani as its backdrop. The city's dramatic setting can be taken in during rides on Mi Teleférico, the aerial cable car system (The itinerary will probably mean that the closest our ‘Travellers’ get to Mi Teleférico will be the view from the Hotel). The rigours of travel and the high altitude ensured that all carefully, and slowly, acclimatised themselves. The Grand Master and the Grand Secretary found time to deal with important administrative matters relating to the visit. The Grand Marshal and the Deputy Grand Marshal meticulously went over the detailed planning of the Masonic events that were to be undertaken. The ‘Marshals’ ensured time was also found to talk through the work planned for Friday 29th January.

The demands on the Brethren and W Bro Jose are considerable. All had spent many hours preparing for the following:
